Dwa „polonika” z Kindle Store: The Poland Trilogy i Zamoyski

Nie pisałem dawno o promocjach z Kindle Store, bo i nie ma za bardzo o czym, ale przeglądając dzisiaj księgarnię znalazłem parę rzeczy, które mogą nas zainteresować.

Wbrew pozorom nie chodzi o Sienkiewicza, a o… Martina.

James Conroyd Martin jest autorem trzech powieści rozgrywających się na terenie Polski na przełomie XVIII i XIX wieku. Konstytucja 3 maja, rozbiory, aż do Powstania listopadowego.

1. Push Not the River ($1,22) – polski tytuł „Nie ponaglaj rzeki”; promocyjna cena nie wiem na jak długo.
2. Against a Crimson Sky ($4,99) – polski tytuł „Pod purpurowym niebem”
3. The Warsaw Conspiracy ($4,99) – polski tytuł „Warszawski spisek”

Opis pierwszej części:

W LC książki, które wydano także po polsku mają oceny 6-7/10, ale chyba na naszym rynku przeszły niezauważone. Były określane jako polskie „Przeminęło z wiatrem”, a jako napisany przez Amerykanina romans historyczny osadzony w polskich realiach są wystarczająco egzotyczne, aby o nich wspomnieć. :-)

Autor otrzymał za pierwszą część nagrodę American Council for Polish Culture w 2007 roku.

Zamoyski o Poniatowskim i nie tylko

Po raz kolejny w promocji Countdown Deals pojawiła się książka The Last King of Poland ($0,99) – biografia Stanisława Augusta Poniatowskiego napisana przez Adama Zamoyskiego  –wydana u nas w 1994 roku i od tego czasu niewznawiana, nawet w bazie LC jej nie ma.

One night in December 1755, Stanisław Antoni Poniatowski, the twenty-three-year-old secretary to the British Ambassador in St Petersburg, was introduced into the bedroom of the Grand Duchess Catherine Alekseyevna. This marked the beginning of a torrid and clandestine affair which led to Stanisław being crowned King of Poland in 1764.

The young king was a dashing figure in the finest eighteenth-century tradition. He was a perfect illustration of the contradictions of Europe’s ideological and religious viewpoints: he worshipped reason but was led by the heart; professed Catholicism but believed in Providence; toyed with the occult and practised freemasonry.

A great believer in art and education, he spent fortunes on cultural projects, and finding that he was blocked politically by Catherine, he put his energies into a social and artistic regeneration of his kingdom. He transformed the mood and outlook of his country and brought it to a new phase of reform and independence, culminating in the passing of the Constitution in 1791, hailed in Britain, France and the United States as one of the greatest events of the century.
